WHAT IS FOI?

The Freedom of Information (FOI) Act 2014 was signed into law on the 14th October 2014 and replaces both the 1997 and 2003 Acts.  Its long title states "An Act to enable members of the public to obtain access, to the greatest extent possible consistent with the public interest and the right to privacy, to information in the possession of public bodies, other bodies in receipt of funding from the State and certain other bodies...".   Since the introduction of the 2014 Act, the volume of FOI requests has increased two-fold; this means training for FOI Practitioners is more important than ever.  

WHAT IS GDPR?

The General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) came into law across the EU on the 25th May 2018 and place significant new requirements on Data Controllers in the processing of personal data.  We provide a suite of courses on GDPR compliance from a full one-day course for Data Protection Practitioners, a half day course on processing a Subject Access Request to 90 minute general awareness sessions for staff.  If you wish to improve your compliance with these Regulations, please contact us to discuss your tailor-made training solution.

CENTRAL POLICY UNIT – FOI TRAINING FRAMEWORK

AllOne are delighted to announce that we have been awarded the contract under Lot 1 of the new FOI Training Framework.  This means that we will be continuing to provide you with the 2-day Decision  Maker Course and the Public Access to Information (PAI) Course.  We have an impressive line-up of Trainers, all experienced Practitioners in the FOI field and they are on hand to deliver inhouse, online and open booking courses.  

The courses offered now include:-

  • Public Access to Information (PAI) - this is a one-day course suited to those assisting Decision Makers in gathering and scheduling records.  We cover the steps in processing an FOI request including validity, voluminous, narrowing scope, charging a fee, adequacy of search and preparing the schedule of records.  We also take an overview of the other Access Regimes including the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR), Access to Information on the Environment (AIE), Re-use of Public Sector Information (PSI) and Administrative Access.
  • FOI Decision Maker Training - this is now a two-day course with lots of time for Case Studies and practical examples and discussion.  Day 1 focuses on the processing of a request - context & background of the Act, validity, voluminous, fees, narrowing scope, refusals on administrative grounds.  Day 2 focuses on the public interest & harm tests and the exemptions.
